ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Pintô Art Museum marks its 25th Anniversary with a milestone exhibition, Homage to Gaia. It opens on November 23, 2025, at Ilustrado 1 in Gallery 7 and Upper Galleries 1–4.

As we celebrate our Silver Anniversary, we honor the storytellers, visionaries, and artists who shaped our journey. Over the years, their contributions deepened the dialogue between art, science, humanity, and nature. These efforts allow Pintô to remain a vibrant space for creativity and reflection. This anniversary celebrates the past and renews our commitment to fostering the arts in the Philippines and beyond.

Curated by Ferdie Montemayor, this year’s theme, Homage to Gaia, pays tribute to the primordial Earth goddess. Gaia embodies vitality, transformation, and the fragile beauty of our planet. Through this exhibition, we honor Earth not just as ground but as a sentient, breathing force.

Participating artists present works engaging with nature’s power, fragility, and resilience. Their art offers meditations on the interconnectedness of all beings.

By gathering artists in this moment, Pintô Art Museum invites audiences to reflect deeply. The exhibition asks what it means to live in harmony with the natural world. Homage to Gaia calls for awareness, celebrates creativity, and offers gratitude to our living planet..

MIDLAND CRISIS

Elmer Roslin’s Midland, featured in the Homage to Gaia exhibition at Pinto Art Museum,. It is a reflective exposition on how climate change has reshaped the way we live — timely and urgent.

The title refers to the place where Roslin resides—an area that has increasingly suffered from severe flooding, especially during the rainy season. The painting adopts a surrealist lens, portraying distorted and disfigured beings trapped in the crisis yet continuing with their daily routines. Some pause for a coffee break, lovers share a quiet embrace and moments of erotic intimacy, while onlookers gaze helplessly at their submerged homes. Others get drunk out of boredom, with nothing else to do, while a few wade or swim through the water as if slowly adapting to a strange new normal.

Through these vignettes, Roslin reflects the resilience—and denial—of a people forced to coexist with disaster. Life goes on, even as the waters rise.
